Our program

Our 5-month Digital Shaper program is composed of two phases: the Online Learning Journey where you build up your theoretical knowledge and the subsequent Project Work Journey where you apply your theoretical knowledge to own or given projects with a team. Take part in community events, make new friends, and learn from unique workshops and hackathons sponsored by our partners. After completion, receive a Digital Shaper Certificate and become a part of the TechLabs Alumni Network. No previous level of knowledge is needed to enrol. All that matters is motivation to learn! Are you excited about tech and want to learn how to apply coding to solve the problems of today? Join our Digital Shaper Program!

Data Science

In the Data Science track you will learn basic coding skills in Python and apply them directly to Data Science tasks — from data import to data preparation and visualization to building advanced machine learning models for classification and Web Development.

Deep Learning

Ready for a deepdive into AI? This track offers the possibility to learn about the possibilities of current AI methods such as Natural Language Processing, Image and Object Recognition. Techies apply Python in order to carry out those methods. We are eager to introduce lessons based on LLMs in this course as well.

Web Development

Here you have the chance to learn of building your first interactive web application and get to know the Web Dev toolbox (e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React.js, and many more).

User Experience Design

In this track that is all about how we as people interact with technology, you will learn about the key values for designing an enjoyable user experience, get to know tools to prototype ideas, and create your own design portfolio.

TechLabs Rotterdam

Known as the “gateway to Europe” due to its large seaport, Rotterdam is a cultural melting pot with over 170 nationalities. Famous for its modern architecture as well as inventing ‘Kapsalon’, Rotterdam is home to many internationally renowned knowledge institutions and universities. With so much diversity, innovation and know-how in one place, it’s no wonder this city is developing into a major European tech & start-up hub with more than 500 tech start-ups (and counting). We believe Rotterdam is one of the best places to enter the Tech World– independent of your prior knowledge.

FAQ

Q: How much of the program is online versus in person sessions? A: The learning phase is conducted online on your own time with weekly sessions in the evenings with the community. These sessions will alternate between in person in Rotterdam and online. We will share the schedule with you once you have enrolled in the program.

Q: Can I do more than one track at a time? A: It is only possible to do one track per semester. However, you are more than welcome to apply again and follow a different track in the next semester!

Q: Do we admit students from outside the Rotterdam region? A: We put great importance on our students being able to physically take part in the community so we prioritize applications from those located in the Netherlands and able to travel to Rotterdam (around once every two weeks). If you live outside of the Netherlands, there are other locations that TechLabs Rotterdam is closely affiliated with. Check out the website at https://techlabs.org/locations

Q: What happens if I get accepted to the program? A: Congratulations! Upon acceptance you will get an email with further instructions. Steps that need to be taken include providing proof of payment of 80 euro commitment fee which will be reimbursed upon completion of the program. Further details on the program and how to get started will be explained during the Kick-Off meeting.
